Surgical Excision Method
Along the folds of the underarms, tiny incisions are made and the apocrine glands, which are on the reverse side of the skin, are removed. This treatment leaves little scarring and is highly effective.
The cause of hircismus or excess underarm odor is the perspiration secreted by the apocrine glands. The perspiration itself is odorless but when secreted to the skin's surface it mixes with perspiration secreted by the eccrine glands and becomes odorous. The gland ablation method is a surgery where an incision is made along the fold of the armpit and the surgeon uses scissors to remove any visible apocrine glands. Since there is less toll on the body than the excision method and results are excellent, ablation may be a more suitable procedure for those receiving this type of treatment for the first time.

Excision Method
Apocrine glands in the area of the skin where underarm hair grows are excised. Nothing is left behind. This is an extremely effective treatment.
Removes the apocrine glands similarly to the gland ablation method to resolve hircismus or excess underarm odor. The excision method removes the apocrine glands from the underarm tissue, in contrast to ablation of the visible apocrine glands. Though the toll on the body is greater than that of gland ablation, excision seems to be the most effective treatment method. Excision surgery may be appropriate for those who have tried gland ablation and not obtained far-reaching results or for those with severe hircismus.
