Septal Extension
The septum is the wall separating the left and right nostrils. If the septum is short, the nose will be short and have a turned-up tip, often called a "pig nose". In this procedure we improve the shape of the nose by lengthening the septum with transplanted cartilage and rotating the tip downwards. Lengthening the tip of nose gives the whole face a more well-defined impression.

Septal extension - Surgery details
【Close method】
1: Incisions are made from inside the nostrils. A blue line indicates the location of the incisions.
2: An instrument is used to widen the area of the incision, and an implant made from cartilage is inserted.
3: The tip of the nose is lengthened by inserting the implant between the septal cartilages.
【Open method】
1: An incision is made in the septum at the base of the nose, and the skin is peeled back.
2: The septal cartilages are exposed and transplanted cartilage is inserted.
3: The implant is inserted between the septal cartilages. As the insertion site can be clearly seen, a more precise procedure is possible.
Treatment of a Deviated Septum
The septum, which separates the left and right nostrils, is made from cartilage and mucous membrane. This procedure addresses the problem of blocked nostrils when the septum curves to the left or right. There are many cases in which the septum has been curved from birth. If the deviation is slight, there is no problem, but if it is more serious, it causes severe nasal congestion and accompanying headaches, and makes it easier to develop sinusitis. Patients who have difficulty breathing should consider this treatment.

Treatment of a deviated septum - Surgery details
In this procedure, we remove or shave down cartilage which is curved and is causing nasal congestion of the nostrils. After administration of anesthesia, the curved side of the mucous membrane of the septum is peeled back to expose the septal cartilages. The protruding area of the exposed cartilages is removed using scalpels and other instruments, and adjustments are made to straighten the septum. Finally, the mucous membrane is sutured to the cartilage.
To prevent postoperative bleeding of the mucous membrane and deformation of the shape of the nose, gauze is inserted for 2–3 days.
